This is great for me. I like the feeling of security the waterproofness gives me if I get caught in the rain and my backpack socks through. The padding is just right: neither too much nor too little. I normally use it inside a bag with at least some amount of padding, so something like a caselogic sleeve ends up being too thick. The only downsides are that it's a little big for my Retina MacBookPro. Most of the time that's OK, but if I'm trying to get it in a spot designed for a 13' laptop with the case on, it can be a tight fit. And there's a lot of space up at the top, even considering the need to fold over for waterproofing.Caveat: I haven't performed a plunge test, so I can't give it 5 stars.

Not good for backpacks
The seller seems to have great customer feedback. THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE PRODUCT ONLY. The outer sleeve is the 'waterproof' sleeve as described, velcro, ziplocs work excellently. This aspect of the product met my expectation, and I'm glad about that. The inner sleeve is the 'protective' sleeve, however it has a dearth of foam for cushioning impacts; the top and bottom are somewhat acceptable, but the sides are useless, devoid of foam to properly cushion impacts. The bottom (opposite the sleeve mouth) has a uselessly small (approx. 1 inch / 12 inches, 1/4 inch thick?) strip of foam that doesn't effectively cushion impact; this strip of foam is not complementary to the 'top' and 'bottom' cuts, as it shifts into a useless position easily, and is really too small to cushion any smart device.

More than adequate protection for laptop i
Product was bought to protect a laptop in transit , in a small rubber dinghy, from sailboat to shore ... Often in rough weather conditions. Although waterproof-ness has not yet been tested - visually the case gives the appearance of being robust, adequately padded and waterproof.

Not sure about this!
It should do fine in a light to moderate rain if it is well protected otherwise in a bag of some sort. I would NOT trust this to protect my laptop in a heavy downpour riding my bicycle or walking. I would not trust this to protect an expensive laptop at all. It is only designed to protect it inside your carry case or bag in light to moderate rain dashing inside form a car. If you had to walk or wait for a bus and it might pour You would have to add an extra layer or two of protection to be on the safe side.

This is a heavy duty sheath.
This is a heavy duty sheath with a second layer padded interior sleeve, both well designed and made. It will work perfectly to - for example - protect your laptop or portable folding travel monitor on an extended European backpacking where we slept rough and then train trip where we slept more elegantly, where the electronics were stowed in a backpack throughout, and rained on and knocked about occasionally. The color of my sheaths matches the red pictured here.
Note that this is not hermetically sealed at the opening. It is not meant to be submersed. It will protect if dampened or rained upon, but not if inundated. The outer sheath is at best as airtight as a ziplock bag, the inner padding closes with velcro. Do not expect to sink or take this through whitewater without liquid seeping in.
In sum, I am very pleased with this sheath- I bought two, a 15"" and 17"", and both performed very well.
